What high school did you attend?

I went to Addison Trail High School.


What were some of your favorite hobbies or pastimes in high school?

Art, always. I played piano and organ at church at the age of twelve.


What was your favorite type of music to listen to when you were in high school?

The original House of Music in Chicago and Beethoven.


Did you always know you wanted to be a choir teacher?

No, not at all. I was into fine arts. I was also a graphic illustrator.


What is your favorite type of music to listen to now?

Stand-up comedy. I rarely listen to music anymore.


Did you ever perform professionally, outside of school?

I played piano professionally starting at the age of sixteen. That’s thirty years of playing professionally!


Do you play any instruments? If so, what are they?

I play the piano, organ, and euphonium.


How have you changed as a person since you were 17?

I started in art and ended in music. I was a professional pianist and then went into education. Kind of a shift.


How have you stayed the same?

I have always had a career in music. Also, I have always been a teacher of some sort.


If you could go back and change one thing about high school, what would it be?

Nothing. I really believe every choice and every circumstance is supposed to happen.
